Mr. Chimaobi James Agwu is National Director of BNI Nigeria, the World’s largest and most successful business referral organization. He is also the founder of eBusiness Incubation Center and Publisher of BusinessTrumpet News.
Before now he has served as the Managing Director of Safeline Microfinance Bank and Cowries Microfinance Bank.
An economist by training, Mr Agwu holds a BSC in Economics, MSC in Finance and an MBA from the University of Lagos. He is a CIBN certified microfinance practitioner (MCP) and has attended several pieces of training including the Advanced Corporate Accounts Management Program of ServExcel India, the Sustainable Microenterprise Development Program of the University of New Hampshire/Carsey Institute, the Gender and Sustainability Program of United Nations Institute of Training and Research, the Boost Program of the Global Social Benefits Institute, Entrepreneurship Acceleration Program of Brocconi University, The African Digital Start-up Acceleration Program and the Director Training Programs of BNI, USA.
In 2018, he took part in the Mentors Training Program of Venture Capital for Africa (VC4A) under the MAKE-IT AFRICA and in February 2020 was part of the IFAD/Procasur sponsored Learning Field Lab in Mali and Cameroon.
Agwu has proven and tested experience in Banking, Development work, strategy development, business and financial planning, business and start-up mentoring, research and training.
He worked in Corporate Banking Dept and in branches and rose to become the group head of Food and Beverages Sector Wema Bank. He left commercial banking for microfinance banking
He has consulted for several organizations including USAID/Winrock, UNDP, Heinrich Boll Foundation, Fabulous Urban, Phillips Energy, Energy Institute, GreenMax, Mennonite Economic Development Associates, CUSO International, Procasur, etc. Some of the local organizations he has consulted for include Luforte Energy, GiDiBike, Benstel Integrated Services, Eastern Biscuits Manufacturing, Mutual Benefits MFB, Mayfair MFB, CSD MFB, Unical MFB and Consistent Energy Limited.
