The Research Exchange, organized by TechQuest STEM Academy in collaboration with NitHub, took center stage at the highly anticipated Omniverse Africa Summit 2025, creating an invaluable platform for researchers, innovators, industry players, government representatives, and funding organizations to engage and collaborate.

Virtual Prelude to the Omniverse Africa Summit

Held as a two-day virtual exchange before the summit, the event was hosted by Dr. Itoro Emembolu, Director of TechQuest STEM Academy. The virtual format allowed for a broader range of participants from across Africa and the diaspora to join in and contribute to the discussions.

The Research Exchange served as an essential prelude to the summit, creating an open dialogue for collaboration and research exchange on a continental and global scale.

The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Victor Odumuyiwa, the Acting Director of the NITDA IT Hub, and co-host of the Research Exchange. One of the key moments of the virtual exchange was the discussion on research funding opportunities. A major highlight was the announcement of the 150,000-Euro German-African Innovation Incentive Award (GAIIA). This award, spearheaded by Dr. Erik Hansalek, Head of the Division for Cooperation with Africa and the Middle East at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Germany, was designed to foster innovative collaborations between African and German researchers. This grant serves as a catalyst for cross-continental partnerships and will empower the brightest minds from both continents to create lasting impact through innovation.

Omniverse Africa Summit Day Two: A Gathering of Innovators

The second day of the Research Exchange transitioned to the physical stage at the Omniverse Africa Summit, held at the Landmark Events Centre. The in-person event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including Charles Emembolu, Co-convener of the Omniverse Summit, and high-level dignitaries such as Ambassador Gautier Mignot, the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria, and Dr. Thuweba Diwani, Head of Projects at the GIZ/Digital Transformation Centre, Nigeria.

Discussions during the summit revolved around pressing topics such as research commercialization, technology adoption, intellectual property (IP) management, and the various funding opportunities available for emerging technologies and research. Experts highlighted the critical intersections of research, industry, and government, exploring ways to ensure that groundbreaking research is translated into tangible solutions that can benefit society at large.
