TQ Introduction to Programming Webinar
WEBINAR: INTRODUCTION TO PROGRAMMING USING SCRACTH
TechQuest Ambassador Onome Emore, facilitated a webinar introducing 10-17 year olds to Programming using Scracth. The webinar which held on the 16th of May, between 12 noon – 1 pm, had an attendance of over 350 participants.
Onome is an Alumnus of TechQuest STEM Academy and has attended several boot-camps and competitions that have aided him in his quest to improve his programming skills.
Onome Joshua Emore is a 12year-old programmer, games, technology, music and dance enthusiast. He started his tech journey at the age of 7 when he learnt code writing using Alice. Now, he is proficient in 8 programming languages and tools. He now has over 30 games to his credit and has published three games in Kodu game lab.
He represented his School (Imperial Gate school, Lagos) at several competitions including the Oracle Student’s Hackathon, where he came 1st in 2017 and 3rd in 2018. He was also part of the team that won the Gold medal at the Nigeria National Robotics Olympiad in 2018 and Silver Medal in the 2019 edition.
Onome believes that programming will be an important skill for his generation. He is keen on sharing his knowledge with other children via his blog on Instagram and YouTube Channel @Onomecodes.
Below is the curriculum of his session:
• What is programming?
• What you can do with programming.
• Why should you learn how to program.
• Introduction to Programming Languages and Platforms.
• Introduction to Scratch for beginners
▪ Creating Games and Animation with Scratch
Webinar Assignment: Create a project involving at least 3 look block and at most 10 motion blocks.
